The owner should be visible without a follow-up.
The owner should be visible without a follow-up.
A lot of “just checking in” work is really ownership debt. Not because people do not care. Because the work moved, but the owner disappeared.
If something needs action, there should be one visible name on it. If it is blocked, the blocker should sit next to the owner. If it changed hands, that handoff should be obvious.
When nobody can tell who owns the next move, the project starts creating follow-up work for everybody else. Then the update becomes another round of asking, waiting, and re-explaining.
Good systems make ownership easy to see. Not after a meeting. Not after a Slack thread. Right in the work itself.
