The Tail Sniffer 4.0: a new look, flight plans, and a free plan

On October 7, The Tail Sniffer had its biggest update since launch. Version 4.0 brings a new look, flight plans, an Android app and self-serve plans.

A new look. The website, the iPhone app and every alert email now use a light design built around the gold and navy of the logo. Buttons and status labels are cleaner throughout. Dark mode is still there if you prefer it.

Flight plans. You can now see where an aircraft is going and when it should land, not just where it is right now. Pro adds upcoming flights, flight-plan alerts and airport conditions such as ground stops.

Android. The Tail Sniffer has been on Google Play since October 10, alongside the iPhone app.

A better map. There's a new airports layer, and VFR and IFR charts are under Layers.

No more waiting for approval. Signing up used to mean requesting access and waiting for me to approve it. Now anyone can sign up and start tracking right away.

Plans.

  • Free: 3 aircraft, the last 30 days of history, and email alerts.

  • Pro: $5.99 a month or $49.99 a year. It covers 15 aircraft, the full flight archive, push alerts, flight-plan features and no ads.

  • New accounts can try Pro free for 7 days.

If you already have an account, nothing changes until January 5. You keep everything you have now while you decide. Thank you for being here early.

The Tail Sniffer is for pilots, aircraft owners, operators and flight departments who want to know where their fleet is, where it's been, and the moment an aircraft moves. It's built by a working pilot, for the way people actually track airplanes.
