Admin drag should expire
A surprising amount of wasted time does not come from hard work. It comes from work that should have ended already.
An old reminder still fires even though the task is done. A standing check-in stays on the calendar long after the real answer became visible somewhere else. A follow-up remains open even though the decision was already made in another thread, another doc, or another system. Nobody means for this to happen, but it adds up fast.
This is one of the quiet ways teams lose time. Not through one dramatic breakdown. Through small pieces of admin drag that never get cleared. Each one looks minor. Together they keep people rereading, re-answering, and rechecking things that no longer deserve attention.
Most teams focus on creating better workflows. That matters. But cleanup matters too. A useful system should not only trigger work. It should also know when to close the loop, cancel stale reminders, and stop asking for information that already exists.
That requires visible state. If something is done, mark it done. If a follow-up no longer matters, remove it. If a status update is already captured, do not make someone repeat it just because another process never learned to stop.
The goal is not more automation for its own sake. The goal is getting people's time back by letting dead work die on time.
